    Dear Phone Company

    August 15th, 2007 by elenamary

    Dear Phone Company,

I really didn’t need a land line but gone one because your company required it in order for me to have internet service at my home.   When I asked if you could please not publish my phone number you told me that would be an extra charge of $2 a month.  It seemed like a consistent waste of money and so I declined….what a mistake that was.

My roommates and I all have cell phones, none of us use, nor do we even know the number of the home phone and yet it rings all the time.  It rings with people selling stuff.  Make it stop!  They know my name, they only call for me.  Is it because my number is published?  What bull.

Why is it I have to pay you $2 a month not to do something?

    Sincerely,

    Elenamary

Unplug your PHONE. Or do what I do: Set an answering machine to answer on the first ring and keep the machine’s volume turned down. Every week or so listen to the messages to see if anything was actually important.

Oh, and put yourself on the Do-Not-Call list. It actually helps a bit.

I have the same problem. I just checked out http://donotcall.gov and I’m submitting my number…

I was thinking about getting an answering machine that has multiple inboxes so I can separate actual people’s messages from the spam. But then it just seems like more trouble than it’s worth.

I also get called on my cellphone from a machine in Spanish telling me I’ve won something. Not sure how they got my number or how to get off of it.
